Name: Xerxes Break
Also known as Kevin Regnard
Just so I can clarify a little fact about Break's name too. Before he was pulled into the Abyss he was a knight to the Sinclair family but his name was Kevin Regnard. So that name is his true name but he no longer goes by it and very few people know his real name. Plus once he returned from the Abyss and was taken in by the Rainsworth did he change his name to Xerxes Break.

Power: Break will be keeping his Chain - Mad Hatter - if allowed.
The Mad Hatter can negate and terminate anything relating to the Abyss, such as chains and even Baskervilles. It even has the power to destroy items created within the Abyss like Cheshire’s bell. The main downside to this destructive power is the destruction that it does to the user’s body. It weakens the user and causes physical harm over time with use, and is the reason why Break is losing his sight and coughs up blood.
For Zodion, at first his Hatter will only be able to destroy small Abyss related things or stop an attack by a chain.

Personality:
At first glance Break really does look like someone that might have the Mad Hatter chain, enough so that many speculated he had it before it was even revealed in the series. In appearance Break seems to be a carefree, goofy, never serious and always smiling character. He loves sweets, has a knack for pushing buttons to get a rise out of people enjoying himself immensely as he does so and Break is even well known for appearing and disappearing in places most people would never expect. With all of these small things it can be seen why the Hatter from Alice in Wonderland fits him so well.
However, that isn’t all that Break is; he is far from a two-dimensional character. There can be a degree of danger and threatening air to him because of his past, though he might do his best to hide it. After his first trip to the Abyss with the loss of his eye and his return to the real world, Break was a much darker person, never smiling or taking joy in anything. Only through the care of Shelly Rainsworth and Sharon Rainsworth was he able to start to smile and see joy in life again. Even with this he can still have a serious side that can be well-linked to his past as a knight for the Sinclair family. This past trait can feed into his extreme devotion to and protectiveness over the people he cares for.
“... If there's only one person you wish to protect, you must be cruel enough to get rid of everything else. Because no one can get back what they have lost.”
Break’s devotion and need to protect what he loves is a strong trait he has kept no matter what has happened. He goes as far as making rash decisions when he fails to protect what he loved and ultimately lost. This goes into why he illegally contracted a Chain - Albus the White Knight - to change the past, only to find that when something like that is changed someone must replace what was changed.
Needless to say, while he seems carefree Break truly harbors a great deal of regret for his actions and choices of the past, though he tries to not let them effect his present life. And yet, his need to know what actually happening in the past leads him to continue to act rashly.
Uncaring about what happens to him, Break’s biggest goal is to figure out what happened 100 years ago in the tragedy of Sablier. He wants to achieve this goal as quickly as he can, even at the cost of lessening - or losing - his own life, once again showing he doesn’t care if he sacrifices himself in the process as long as he learns the truth. After all, he has accepted and even stated very early in the series that he doesn’t have a lot of time left in the world.
To certain people he still feels the need to lie to them so that they don’t worry; Sharon Rainsworth is one of these people. Break doesn’t tell her where he is going or what he’s doing constantly since he doesn’t want to cause her distress if something might happen to him. This normally ends with her being upset with him and angered that he once again treated her like a child. At times, almost seem like he’s masochistic since he already knows the end result will be her beating him up and yelling at him.
While Break is prone to lie with Sharon, he can be blunt and manipulative with others. Take for example when he bluntly tells Oz he’s a creepy kid; he doesn’t care about Gilbert being upset to hear it. As far as Break is concerned, it’s true, and he feels like he needs to say it. The doll on his shoulder - Emily - is the one who's usually the most blunt. Regardless, even with being blunt he can be very good with words, making people believe something that might not be true just so that he doesn’t have to say the truth or so he can enjoy their reactions to something they are unsure of. In this, he also likes to take advantage of things. If he can make someone believe something then he will play with that thought and milk it for all it’s worth. This includes actions; if he can get away with it, why not do it?
For Break, more key elements to his personality are his interactions and relationships with the people around him. There are a few people that he has set relationships with and behaves a certain way around, while with others he seems to not mind much at all.
Two people that are extremely important to Break are Miss Shelly and Sharon Rainsworth. Once he returned from the Abyss, they took him in and treated him like family. The gesture was a touching one to him and he looked to Sharon much like a little sister. In time with them, he learned to smile again and soon he saw them as family. While he respected and cared for her mother Shelly, watching Sharon grow up Break truly cares for her and would do anything to protect her, even with the fact of lying to her. It is because of their closeness that he doesn’t want her to know how bad his state really is, and he believes that not telling her will protect her. He likes they are close enough that she can know his mind and see through his smiling mask. Even with this closeness, he still finds moments to tease the young miss and enjoy her reactions. One such thing he loves to comment on is her liking of younger boys, stating that Oz was her type after they first met.
Besides family, Reim Lunettes is another person he holds close to himself. With the way Break can be at times, he doesn’t get close to many on a friend level. He doesn’t tend to make lasting relationships because it complicates things regarding his goals, preferring to find a way that he can use the people he meets. Still, like Shelly and Sharon, Reim has known Break since his appearance from the Abyss and even helped him see past his depressions and darkness. In some cases, he even showed a great degree of concern when Break wished to constantly scratch at his wounds. After this meeting together, they become close friends, Break even going as far as stating that Reim is one of his true friends. He teases and pushes the other man’s buttons, but he still tolerates it enough to push back sometimes. Break cares about Reim, enough that when it was thought that Lily “killed” him Break attacked the Baskerville with the intent to kill. For Break, hurting someone close to him is the worst mistake someone could ever make. A lot of the dynamic of their relationship could also be looked at in accordance with their chains, the Mad Hatter and March Hare; these two characters are often spotted together within the story of “Alice in Wonderland”.
Another relationship that has an interesting dynamic is Break’s relationship with Gilbert Nightray (who was originally Gilbert Baskerville). After Oz was pulled into the Abyss, Break sought out the boy and offered a proposal - a way to get Oz back in exchange for the other to spy on the Nightray house and become his left eye. After their agreement Break continues to visit Gilbert on different occasions, most times teasing him, while other times seriously talking to him. Break becomes an almost kind of respectful figure in Gilbert life, much to his surprise, and notices that Gilbert takes his role as his “left eye” seriously. Break’s feelings on Gilbert are of respect, but also as a useful person to him, this gradually turning into a sort of caring towards the boy. Still, Break finds it immensely fun to get a rise out of since the other is so easily animated.
In regards to his relationship with Gilbert, Break’s relationship with Oz is an interesting one. It’s one that can be interpreted different ways. At times they seem to be okay with one another, and then other times they seem to dislike each other. Break does know that Oz doesn’t really trust him at times, but doesn’t mind it. He calls him a brat most times and even a “creepy brat”, not even caring to shed bluntness towards him. It’s like he tolerates Oz, though what greatly interests him is the Chain that Oz made a contract with: Alice the “B-Rabbit”. With her past having to do with living one hundred years ago, Break finds her of great interest and wants to find out more about her in order achieve his main goal. He goes as far as defending her in Cheshire’s world when Gilbert shows a want to kill the Chain because of her link to Oz.
Even with family and friends, he also makes an almost twisted relationship with Charlotte Baskerville. The few times they have met, he either throws around how he “regrets” having to fight her or asking if she wants to be friends with him. It’s still not completely clear what he wants from Lottie, though it can be speculated that it’s some kind of eye on the inside of the Baskervilles. Break wants to know everything that goes on. He hates not knowing anything, so he seems to make connections with people everywhere so that he can have a constant string of information and the ability to withhold secrets.
Besides those he cares for, there are those that he hates or dislikes such as Vincent Nightray, Gilbert’s younger brother. While he didn’t trust Vincent for a while, it wasn’t until the man kidnapped and poisoned Miss Sharon that he truly began to hate him. In the act of taking Sharon, Vincent was able to obtain an Abyss item that Break wanted, then making Break even destroy it; this only added to his hatred for Vincent, which is more than reflected from the way he acts around the other from then on. He ends up dropping hints about Vincent being a rat in relation to his Chain, the Dormouse.
NEW Another person that Break has quite a degree of dislike in would be Rufus Barma or the 'idiot duke with stupid hair'. Though dislike might be an odd word for their relationships. Because Break is so guarded, in a way, about his past or what he remembers of it. It is only natural that when a man with an ability to gather information like Rufus suddenly knows more than Break expects he has a degree of anger towards him. More than anything though it would have to be the fact that Break wants and strides for information he wants to know things of the past. Why things are they way they are and more about the Abyss, Sablier and everything. So to be denied an audience is greatly frustrating when he knows there is someone that knows the matters so close to home. That was until Rufus invites them all, though Break can easily tell that there is a hidden reason behind this matter. Which has to do with his past and him being the red-eyed ghost. This past is something that Break remembers and yet doesn't a degree, so Barma decides to enlighten everyone to this matter.
Kevin Regnard, or Break, was a noble knight to the Sinclair family Break's personality was much different than he currently is. He was much harsher and took each of his actions seriously. This includes when, because he was out or his neglect as he would put it, the Sinclair family was killed all except one daughter of the master. It was related to political reason since this was when the dukedoms were fighting. Regardless he took great blame on himself and how he couldn't save them that it was his fault. It was then that he was visited by a chain and for his wish to change the past, he killed 116 people becoming known as the red-eyed ghost. His desire was strong enough that even when his illegal contract clock made it's full rotation and he was pulled into the Abyss he made a deal with the Will of the Abyss to change the past. Which she did...though it wasn't how he wanted it to be. Waking after he was allowed to leave the Abyss he learned it was 50 years later and that the family was still killed. Only now it was the surviving daughter who did it. This entire thing twisted Break's view on people and things in many ways. He had changed the past but he had pushed the blood onto someone other than himself, someone that could have still lived and that he should have been there for. In many way this could be why that once he was taken into the Rainsworth house he because so fiercely protective of Sharon. He didn't want to ever leave someone alone like he did back then for someone he cares for to ever get hurt again.
Lastly, a person that has a great impact on Break is the one that took his left eye to begin with, The Will of the Abyss. Once meeting her, the only way he escapes from the Abyss is to call her by the name Alice and promise to do something in return - that thing is to help save Alice from being the Will, something that even Break knows might destroy all of Pandora. Still, after his return Break hates her for the way she changed his past when he wanted to save the family he was the knight of. Instead, she had the surviving daughter be the one to slaughter them with an illegal contract and then die herself. Only after sometime did he realize his emotions towards the Will were misplaced. After all, she did what he asked for even if it didn’t play out the way he wanted it to. Once he sees this, he continues to try and help save Alice.

"Zodion" First-Person Network Entry:
[The screen clicks on with a small sound. In view is a man with a red eye showing while his white hair covers the other, an amazed expression on his features. This is Xerxes Break, and he was certain this thing was just a shiny rock at first... that was until one friendly local showed him otherwise. With the video feed now on, he pokes at the screen. His face soon fills the screen.]
Oooh, so they can see me now? This is thing is more interesting than I gave it credit for!
[Laughing playfully, he gives the local a small pat on the shoulder as the man starts to leave. Break bothered the man more than he wanted with the device. Hey, he needed answers on the thing and the poor sap just happened to be the first person he hit with his cane. It made perfect sense in his mind to bother the man. While the local leaves, Break waves to him, only with a more dismissive wave, his attention then turning back to the screen.]
Now then... Hello, my name is Xerxes Break. I just arrived in this place, so I would naturally like to ask a few questions. Some hospitality like the man that just helped me had shown me would be appreciated.
[Moving with the device pointed at his face, he flops down on a bench to lay down on it and raise the phone up above his head. There’s a pleased look on his face as he raises his legs up to kick a little. Might as well get comfortable, right?]
Much better than that rock bed I arrived on! Aha, so - first question: does everyone that arrives here end up on the stone slab?
[As he says this, there is the lower voice of the doll on his shoulder, now more in view since the camera isn’t on a close-up of his face.]
Kind of morbid!
Now, now, Emily. Still, if that’s how all the beds here are, then I can already say this might not be a very fun vacation.
[Holding up two fingers, he continues to smile a sort of twisted grin.]
Question two: I am curious if anyone I know might be here. Is there a good way of going about this besides exploring this entire place? This question will be of much more importance than our sleeping and living arrangements.
Break needs to make sense!
[Laughing cheerfully, he grabs Emily and squeezes her.]
That’s really all for now. I’ll be here waiting for any kind of help!
[With a toss, he throw Emily to the side and then clicks off the device.]
"Zodionlogs" Third-Person Prose Entry:
This was definitely not where he went to sleep last. Sure, he couldn’t see much of a difference in his surroundings, but he could easily feel it. The last thing that he remembered was his brief chat with Reim before he went back to sleep. Though, he very well remembered falling asleep in a soft bed… not a cold slab of what felt like stone. Now, he knew he didn’t die that easily and he didn't remember going anywhere before sleeping. That only left the question then of where he was now and more importantly: why wasn’t he where he was before?
Sadly, before he could get to think further about that question there was an interestingly new and sharp pain on the side of his neck. As if it was a bug, he quickly slapped his hand against his neck only to wince again while he rubbed at the spot. That actually stung a little. What was that about? As soon as it happened, the pain seemed to vanish. Unmindful to anything new on his body or any kind of glowing color, he simply dismissed it as a bug sting and another annoyance that was placed on arriving in this new place, completely oblivious as to how true that was about his new tattoo.
Once the shock of the pain wore off, he let out a sigh of annoyance and confusion, and finally broke his blank staring contest with the ceiling. Instead of moving away he placed a hand on his forehead to rub some of the tension that had begun already build within his head. This was more of an annoyance than he had just gotten home; now he was somewhere he didn’t know and he wasn’t fond of not knowing something. Still, he supposed it wouldn’t do much good to lie on this hard bed and try to retrace his steps. No, he needed to figure this out himself. Besides, he was a little curious if he was the only one.
In a quick movement, he placed a hand behind him to help push him upright. Finally in an upright position he looked around - not that it did much except give him a little more range to hear. When he heard nothing, the Hatter finally spoke out instead; perhaps someone was here and feeling chatty.
“Hello? Would anyone mind telling me where this is?” His voice formed into a cheerful one he sat in silence while he waited for a reply back. Again, there was nothing, and he could only assume he was in the room alone. If that was the case, he might as well see what all of this was.
With the use of his hands, he pushed himself from the stone bed, then reaching towards the sides of the bed in the hope of feeling something familiar: his cane. In an instant, he felt the acquainted material of it and quickly grabbed it tightly in his grasp. So, they at least gave him this. Now he could have something of use in... wherever this place was. Break tapped the cane on the ground, a small smirk on his lips as he walked forward the shape before him. Though it was dark he could make out the object and it warranted a closer inspection from the Hatter.
Not at all nervous of what it might be he approached the pedestal and placed his hand atop it to feel what might be there. The white-haired man stared down and he blinked when his fingers brushed over the envelope, tapping on the cool, slick surface of the phone afterwards.
Curious. With a smirk on his face he grabbed the envelope first, only to shove it into his pocket. Really, a letter wasn't going to do him much good, now was it? There was still a hint of comedy in it; though, not many were aware of his current state, so he wouldn’t comment. Instead, he turned his focus onto the other object. This one was a new and he wasn’t quite sure what it was for. Questions on this thing might be necessary, then. A final pat of the surface yielded nothing new so that must be what he needed to gather, then.
With a spin on his heel he threw cane up into his hand, offering the room a small bow. After his bow, he laughed out playfully, a smile covering his expression. “Well, thank you for the items! Though I think I really must be going now. Tootles!” On that note, he turned around to leave from the place, his new agenda figuring out where this was and what the note said.
